Manhattan Rep has announced the casting for their upcoming limited engagement of RHODA HEARTBREAK: THE MUSICAL. The cast will feature Lavell Blackwell, Wilber Escobar, Megan Gilliland, and drag queen Mimi Imfurst. The musical is directed by E. Dale Smith and feature musical direction by David Wayne Fox. The production will run January 20th through 22nd.
Former Shubert Playwriting Fellow E. Dale Smith (book/lyrics) and David Wayne Fox (music) team up on this darkly comedic musical set in the dressing room of Vestments Drag Bar in the West Village. Over two pivotal nights, three drag queens must come face-to-face with their prejudices and fears before they can begin to chip away at the facades that they have maintained for years. Featuring both "on-stage" lip-sync numbers and "backstage" numbers sung live, the show offers drama and comedy smashed together, wrapped in sequins, and topped off with a tattered feather boa.
Mimi Imfurst has quickly established herself as one of NYC's most outrageous, controversial, and hysterical night life personalities. Trained in theatre, Mimi also constantly appears in numerous theatrical productions as a drag actor. She appears weekly at many locations around New York City, including Psycho Babble at THERAPY each Monday and America's Next Top each Wednesday at DTox.
Performances for RHODA HEARTBREAK: THE MUSICAL take place January 20th, 21st, and 22nd at 9:00pm each night. Tickets for the event are $20 and may be purchased through the Manhattan Repertory Theatre's box office at 646.329.6588. The Manhattan Repertory Theatre is located at 303 W. 42nd Street on the 3rd floor of the building.
