Hipsters Rejoice!! Carvajal & Markey join WILLIAMSBURG! THE MUSICAL for FringeBENEFITS One-Night-Only Concert Thursday, May 26 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre
Broadway performer Celina Carvajal and writer/performer Erin Markey will join new and original cast members at the Laurie Beechman Theatre on Thursday, May 26th at 7 pm for a one-night only concert staging of Williamsburg! The Musical, part of the New York International Fringe
Festival's FringeBENEFITS series, a celebration of FringeNYC's 15th Anniversary.
In Williamsburg! The Musical: the trials of life are so, so ironic when a neurotic hipster hellcat falls for a curious, curly-cued Hasidic Jew. Their forbidden love spawns a cultural smack-down in
white-hot Williamsburg, the "coolest neighborhood in America".
A sold-out hit of the 2007 festival, Williamsburg! The Musical is written by Will Brumley (Book), Brooke Fox (Lyrics & Music), Kurt Gellersted (Music), and Nicola Barber (Additional Material).
Generating buzz as "hip, happenin'" (New York Post) and as "an edgy, campy musical melding of Evil Dead, Avenue Q and Urinetown. An absolute hit!" (WFUV), winning the Fringe Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics. Song titles include ‘Bedford Avenue
Look', ‘Craigslist Hook-up' about Craigslist Missed Connections, ‘Peter Luger Lullaby' and ‘One Stop (To Excitement)', a rollicking song about the notoriously late love-caboose: the L-train.
The cast includes original hipsters Jessica Crouch (All Shook Up National Tour), Adam Enright, Colin Israel (Mamma Mia! National Tour), Anna Marquardt, Evan Shyer (Jesus Christ Superstar National Tour), Damien DeShaun Smith (Mamma Mia! National Tour), and Jesse Teeters as
well as new additions Celina Carvajal (Toxic Avenger/Rooms), Courtney Cowart (Underwear: A Space Musical, Fringe ‘08) Erin Markey (Green Eyes/Puppy Love: A Stripper's Tail), Yuri Rodriguez, Stephanie Sine (Stop the World I Wanna Get Off) and Stephanie Spano (The Hole/National Tour: Rent). The evening will be directed by Deborah Wolfson (In Your Image), who directed and choreographed the original production.
FringeNYC is a production of The Present Company, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Elena K. Holy. In 1997, New York City became the seventh US city to host a fringe festival, joining Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Houston, Orlando and San Francisco. In
its first 14 years FringeNYC has presented over 2400 performing groups from around the world. The festival has been the launching pad for numerous Off-Broadway and Broadway transfers, long-running downtown hits, and regional Theater Productions. With attendance topping 75,000
people, FringeNYC is New York City's fifth largest cultural event (just behind New York International Auto Show, Tribeca Film Festival, New York City Marathon, and New York Comic Con). The 2011 Festival runs August 12 - 28, offering programming by 200 of the world's best
emerging theatre troupes and dance companies in 20 venues in Lower Manhattan. For more information visit www.FringeNYC.org.
