Rosa Escandón and Wallace Wilder will deliver laughs as two 1970s icons in this new piece about friendship, womanhood, and music.
The show features an imagined TV pilot set in 1974 as two greats of the stage and screen come together for a brand new Variety TV program. With the combined star power of Cher and Carol Channing, the show had the makings of a hit but unfortunately, it never made it to air. The show was scrapped, the footage was stored away, and forgotten by everyone but the 86 people in Burbank who were in the original live studio audience. But all that is about to change- for three nights only, you can see Cher and Carol: Together at Last, with songs, comedy, and dance from the Goddess of Pop, Cher (Wallace Wilder) and Broadway Legend, Carol Channing (Rosa Escandon).
The hour-long comedy spectacular is a love letter to strong women, music, Impeachment (Nixon's), and the specific flavor of 1970s television. With cameos from Alon Elian, Matt Storrs, and a special surprise (celebrity) guest every night, you never know who might show up at Cher and Carol: Together at Last.
Rosa Escandon wrote the piece after playing Carol Channing for her sketch team, Infinite Sketch. The Channing character was such a fan favorite that she knew she wanted to do something bigger with the character. The two-woman show was written with Wallace Wilder in mind for her impressive singing voice and comedy background.
"I have always been fascinated by icons and Carol Channing and Cher are among my favorites," says Escandon. "This show is really a love letter to two women who on paper shouldn't have been stars. Carol wasn't the best singer. She was tall and weird and not traditionally beautiful. I think that's why I love her so much. Because I am tall and weird and not a great beauty or singer. The idea that this kind of person can make it has made me fall in love with her and the character."
"As women in this industry we spend so much time pitted against each other and I think this show, and my relationship with Rosa, is so great because without what each of us brings to the table it could never succeed. Cher could never be Carol. Carol could never be Cher. But that's exactly what made them both stars- and what makes this show so fun."
Escandon is a stand-up, writer, and sketch performer based in Brooklyn. She's been seen on The MLB Network, Seriously.TV, VH1, and Hulu. Her sketch team Infinite Sketch runs out of the People's Improv Theater and she hosts the indie podcast, Psychic Friendz with Dash Kwiatkowski.
Wilder is a Kentucky born attention seeker. Her most recent credits include the web series "Open Mic Night" and originating the role of Becca in the play "Sand in a Memphis Glass, or the Grace of a Good Woman. She co-hosted the podcast Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Podcast and has an EP on the way.
