This March, the CAP21 Theatre Company opens its new theatre with a production of The Daughters , a new musical by Shaina Taub, will be the debut production of the CAP21 Theatre Company in its new state-of-the-art black box theatre. Now occupying two floors, the CAP21 facility features 2 performance spaces - the new Black Box Theatre in addition to The Shop, plus a total of 17 rehearsal studios.
A folk-funk opera, The Daughters stars Shaina Taub; Grammy-nominated recording artist Maiysha; Aisha de Haas (Caroline or Change, Fame Becomes Me, Rent); Alyse Alan Louis (Mamma Mia); Grace McLean (The Last Goodbye); Kate Ferber, Dominique Toney, Jenni Lawton, and Catherine Brookman (Hair).
The Daughters follows the journey of the vixen starlet Aphrodite, the ruthless hunter Artemis, and the child prodigy Athena -- all daughters of the original showstopper, Zeus. Set against the vicious backdrop of the ceaseless Trojan War, The Daughters explodes the stories of three young women into an immersive, raucous, and heartbreaking rock concert, asking how a spotlighted generation can find their voice in a deafening world.
Directed by Sam Pinkleton of downtown dance-theater company Witness Relocation. The creative team also includes Kris Kukul (Music Direction), Ani Taj Niemann (Choreography), Justin Goldner (Orchestrations), Deb O (Scenic Design), Paul Miller (Lighting Design), Daniel Kluger (Sound Design), and Michael Krass (Costume Design).
Shaina Taub is a Vermont- raised, New York-based songwriter, singer, actor and pianist. She toured the country as Gertrude McFuzz in Theatreworks USA's production of Seussical, and has worked extensively with celebrated theatre artist Elizabeth Swados. She writes for and performs in Political- the hit, long-running Saturday night comedy cabaret at the People's Improv Theatre.
THE DAUGHTERS has been performed at Joe's Pub and The Yale Institute for Music Theatre (under the direction of Mark Brokaw). As a singer/songwriter, Shaina regularly performs in New York with her band at venues including The Bitter End and the Living Room. Graduate of CAP21's Musical Theatre Conservatory and NYU/ETW.
