Why spend all night in a coffee shop gossiping about your friends when actors in a theater can do it for you? Monkeys, written by James Comtois and directed by John Hurley, will be presented March 23-31, 2012, by The Brick Theater, located at 575 Metropolitan Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Three friends who can't stand each other yet can't function without each other spend all night-just as they do every night-in a 24-hour coffee shop that serves as both a haven and a prison. Nosedive Productions and The Impetuous Theater Group stage the debut absurdist comedy by James Comtois (Infectious Opportunity, The Adventures of Nervous Boy) about the comforts and horrors of drinking coffee until dawn with the same people each night for a limited run at The Brick. The show stars Alexis Black, Pete Boisvert, James Comtois, Shashanah Newman, Gavin Starr Kendall, Brian Pracht, C.L. Weatherstone and Christopher Yustin.
Dick and Gina, a one-night event written and performed by Jo Wharmby, returns to The Brick March 31, 2012. On a mission to create World Peace one org*sm at a time, British therapist Jo Wharmby is out to get men and women to be brutally honest about what they wish the other knew about sex. If you've ever wondered what your partner's really thinking in the sack, this outrageous comedy lays it all out, from making out to making love. Dick & Gina is definitely not for the faint-hearted, but you're bound to learn something while laughing uncontrollably.
In an election year, it is important for all U.S. citizens to do their patriotic duty. For that reason, The Brick is extending its annual Summer Theme Festival Series with DEMOCRACY, an experiment in civic curation that asks audiences to vote for the shows that will participate in its traditional June festival. From there, the shows will compete with one another during a runoff election cycle in June to determine who will win the title of President of The Brick.
Guidelines for registration can be found at http://www.bricktheater.com. Please address all inquiries to democracy@bricktheater.com. The theater has extended its DEMOCRACY deadline to Friday, March 30, 2012.
The Brick's fourth annual Game Play festival runs July 6-28, 2012. This year's festival will once again feature cutting-edge works that lie at the intersection of video gaming and performance.
