Shakespeare fans can celebrate the Bard's birthday with a Brooklyn accent at Brave New World Repertory Theatre's acclaimed production of "The Merry Wives of Windsor (Terrace)" which, with a few minor adjustments, sets the comedy of the working classes in Brooklyn's Windsor Terrace in the Big Hair 1980s. The production re-imagines Falstaff as a befuddled mob boss and Mistress Ford and Mistress Page as the-real-housewives-of-Brooklyn-with an eye for mischief and an ear for the traditional Brooklyn accent of the time. Minor script changes turn the River Thames into the Gowanus Canal.
First performed last summer outdoors in Windsor Terrace, Brave New World Rep brought it back for a full indoor production with performances April 25, 27, 28 and May 1, 2, 5 and 6. For tickets, visit http://brooklynlyceum.wazala.com/.
