Blue Flamingo takes Manhattan for their second production, an evening of Strindberg's THE STRONGER and his rarely produced MOTHER LOVE, adapted by Cameron Kalajian, directed by Eliza Laytner on stage at The Alchemical Theatre Laboratory from October 1 to 4, 2015.
THE STRONGER
Two former best friends-one married, one unmarried-cross paths in a lounge on Christmas Eve. August Strindberg's electrifying play about marriage, theater, forgiveness, and strength.
MOTHER LOVE
Two young actresses, a stage mom, and a rich aunt. A mother's love for her daughter is questioned as buried secrets are unearthed and a dark past is revealed. Blue Flamingo presents a premiere adaptation of August Strindberg's rarely seen all-female one-act play.
"The plays are mysterious, stormy, and fashionable" says co-producer & dramaturg Genée Coreno. "We are setting THE STRONGER in the year 2012 in the West Village, and MOTHER LOVE in a Broadway dressing room in the 1940s. Both plays are about the stakes of working in the theater, and also about the history of vibrant and fragile New York City," adds on director Eliza Laytner.
The characters want it all, they attain it all, but what they end up with is nothing of great value. The work begs us to ask the question what is having it all and at what cost?

Blue Flamingo is more than a theater company-it's an attitude. One of generosity and of rigor. Part irreverent punk rebel girl, part tea-drinking yogi, we aim to create work that is all at once provocative, heartfelt, flirtatious and sincere. Based in New York and Los Angeles, our plays often include movement, music and inspiration from old stories. Helmed by director and producer Eliza Laytner, co-producer Genée Alyse Coreno along with an incredible community of associate artists from NY to L.A.
