'Basic Training' Kicks Off Manhattan Rep. Summer Fest.

BASIC TRAINING, by Dan Landon will kick-off the Manhattan Repertory Summer Festival beginning Wednesday, June 18th through Friday, June 27th. It is the first of a trilogy of one-act plays entitled BASIC POWER TRIP- 3 short plays about the "war on terror."

 THOMAS MATTHEWS( a graduate of the Atlantic Theatre School and son of Chris Matthews of NSNBC's Hard Ball) and KARYN PLONSKY ( currently starring in the Academy Award winning documentary Taxi on the Dark Side ) will play the leads.  Other cast members include KELVIN HALE ( Golden Gloves Champion who appeared in American Gangster) and OMAR PORTILLA ( a former US Marine who has served in Iraq).  The play is a  comedy based on a true story and is set of at The Great Lakes Naval Academy Training Center in the winter of 2004.

Playwright DAN LANDON 's play TWO DETECTIVES, who played to sold out audiences last season at the Manhattan Rep, is also the theatre manager for the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
