Following a sold-out workshop performance at the Dixon Place Lounge, and sold-out subsequent workshops at the PIT Loft, Dana Aber's soloshow Baggage at the Door will be presented as a special one-night-only show at the Dixon Place Mainstage Friday December 14that 10pm. Hailed as 'deeply moving' with 'infectious original songs,' Baggage at the Door is a 'disarmingly charming' look at healing from trauma: a wry peek inside the head of a seemingly well-adjusted trauma-queen, it is one woman's struggle to get through the terrors of her past and reclaim tenderness.
With original music written in collaboration with award-winning emerging composers, Baggage at the Door is an autobiographical solo musical addressing the critical moment when a trauma survivor realizes she may no longer be able to simply cope; when falling in love triggers her latent PTSD, she might be f*ck*d. Incorporating video games, humor, and video projections, this quirky and candid piece explores her attempts to break the PTSD trauma cycle and find strength to open the door toward a better life. TW: trauma TW: PTSD TW: humor.
Dana Aber is a NYC-based professional performer and collaborator, particularly focused on new musicals and their development. Her first solo creation uses personal essays & poems and original songs. This piece marks the end (?) of a 7-year PTSD cycle of destruction and reconstruction.
Songs for Baggage at the Doorwere created in collaboration with a number of award-winning emerging composers, and will play one night only, Friday December 14 at 10pm, at The Dixon Place Mainstage, at 161A Chrystie Street. Open seating, doors open at 930, bar service available beforehand for drinks to be enjoyed during the performance.
