Few people know the real identity of playwright S. Karlan. And he likes it that way. "I prefer to let my plays do all the talking," he says. A high level government employee working here in New York, the prolific artist not only writes plays, but he also creates music videos and writes other genres.

For those who have seen his work in one form or another, there is this recognition of things not always being what they seem, hence the title of this short play series, "Betrayed By The Mind." In a recent conversation with the directors (Bernard Bosio and Roger Gonzalez), the sentiment is that "these plays leave you thinking, wondering what just happened and what you would do in this situation." "It makes you wonder what's based on real life experiences and what's pure imagination."

Many of the plays were written way before some of today's issues became top stories, which make it all the more intriguing. There's the fear of gun violence, there's the idea that an abusive relationship evolves from a need for love, there's sexuality and gender identity all covered in the evening's performances.

A full length play he wrote a few years ago, "Second Seat," won the top prize at the New York Theater Festival a few years back and Mr. Karlan hopes to see more of his work make their way to the stage in the coming year.

This production playing a short run until Friday, March 9th features the following plays:

In "I CAN HELP YOU WITH THAT" Connie rents her basement to Teddy, who is charming, helpful, and the surprise answer to her financial woes. But is there more to the secretive Teddy than meets the eye And who is that guy screaming as he runs out of her basement The play features Kimberly Simek and Justin Younts.

In "THE HUNTERS," hunters are in town checking into a hotel across the street from a new mall. But what are they really hunting? Jeffrey and Madge grapple with what they are seeing and wonder if they need to worry about it. It stars Nikki Dos Santos, Bernard Bosio, David K. Moseder, Elle Genevieve and Justin Younts.

In a "FAIR EXCHANGE," Harvey is lonely, well off and ready for a girlfriend. Is Sybil the answer to his dreams, or did he get the deal wrong It stars Amber Bloom and David K. Moseder

In "WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH YOU," David has found the perfect woman. There is just one little thing standing in the way of the perfect romance. What will they do What have they done Will they survive It stars Matthew Dean Wood, and Samantha Coppola

In "CAB," Robert just wants a ride, but his cabby, Jimmy, is prepared to give him much more. Sometimes you just want to sit in a cab and not talk and Jimmy is having none of that. It stars Hugh Tipping and Jeff Alley

In "SHADOW OF ORPHEUS," The Greek sun shines brightly and love is in the air between Allan and Ellen, even Nikos, their waiter, can see it. Is this true love, or is it just another Summer romance And how long should you get to know someone before popping the question The play stars Stephen J Ryan, Jessica Baird, and Hugh Tipping
