Award-Winning Puppetry is Coming to Symphony Space In March Image

Two acclaimed companies will present family-friendly puppetry shows with music in March: The last month of the 2019-20 Just Kidding family performing arts season presents a lively and exciting roster of kid-centric shows every Saturday. The March lineup includes colorful and humorous puppetry from two internationally touring groups.

Saturday, March 14 at 11 am and 2 pm: Squirrel Stole My Underpants

Back by popular demand, Bonnie Duncan and The Gottabees return to Just Kidding to reprise their kid-friendly wordless puppet show with live music. Sylvie is sent to the backyard to hang up the laundry. The moment her back is turned, a mischievous squirrel steals her favorite piece of clothing and runs off. When Sylvie gives chase, an entire world emerges from her laundry basket, and curious characters show her the way through mysterious lands. Will our lonely heroine rescue her underpants and discover the magic within herself?

Puppeteer Bonnie Duncan has performed her show across the US, Canada, Scotland, Turkey, and India. It won a 2017 UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence. CBC Radio says of this production, "There are so many visual delights you won't want to blink, for fear of missing one."

The final show of the 2019-20 Just Kidding season at Symphony Space:

Saturday, March 28 at 11 am and 2 pm: Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers: Everybody Loves Pirates

A trio of sibling puppeteers from Maine presents this zany tale set on the high seas, an audience favorite at Symphony Space. Eight-year-old Lucy and her goofy pal Little Chucky search for buried treasure, only to find a gang of bumbling pirates getting in the way. The show features more than a dozen hand-crafted mouth and rod puppets, and an 8-foot paper-mache pirate ship. Join the fun as the kids get some help from their new ocean-dwelling friends, including enthusiastic superhero Lobster Boy, his reluctant sidekick Crabby, and an overgrown sea monkey. As the Camden Herald says, "kids and kids-at-heart can't help smile at these googly-eyed gals and felt-covered fellas that have entertained generations."

Symphony Space is located at 2537 Broadway (at 95th), near the 96th Street subway station (1,2,3 lines).Tickets to this season's performances are available for sale now at Symphonyspace.org. For the latest Just Kidding news, follow along on Facebook and Instagram.
