Fourth Arts Block's member organizations are offering an alternative to pricey Broadway outings with 15 theater plays and shows for $20 or less this April. The East Village & Lower East Side continue to be the go-to neighborhood for ground-breaking and experimental work that is diverse, accessible and affordable for everyone to enjoy.

A Night with Pearl Cleage's Women
March 31 - April 16: Thursday & Friday @ 7:00PM, Saturday @ 3:00PM
Nuyorican Poets Cafe (236 East 3rd Street)
Go back in time to 1898, when freed slaves claimed Nicodemus, Kansas, as their new home, and to 1930, when Harlem was the bastion for black artistic freedom in A Night With Pearl Cleage's Women, a story about love, betrayal and redemption, directed by Rome Neal, curator of Banana Puddin Jazz at Nuyorican. Tickets for $10.

Hope Speaks

HOPE SPEAKS is an empowering, thought provoking, and dynamic devised storytelling piece that explores the historic 2008 Election of President Barack Obama. Tickets for $15, students/seniors $10.

Jacqueline Santiago Presents "Damaged"

The one woman show "DAMAGED" written and performed by Jacqueline Santiago. Jacqueline Santiago takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. A vulnerable teenager is caught in a struggle of family violence. 11 different characters on the stage to bring you a story of love, despair, and betrayal. Tickets are $15.

The History of Kisses

A heady mix of spicy stories and amorous encounters blend with original sea shanties, as a writer sequesters himself in an oceanfront motel to finish his collection of seaside erotic stories, only to find himself getting drawn into the romantic and sexual goings-on around him. Gasland

A documentary that shows that the public is mislead under the false claim that natural gas is a "clean" energy, the oil and gas industry is currently using a toxic and hazardous process for natural gas extraction called hydraulic fracturing ("hydrofracking"). Free admission.

First Ladies Project

New York Theatre Workshop - 83 East 4th Street
The First Ladies Project is an original show about the role of First Lady in United States history. Mixing real letters, historical accounts, and imagined circumstances, this play will explore the truthful, funny, and heartbreaking moments of our country's oft forgotten icons. Tickets for $14.

Puppet Blok Gets Punched

A showcase for all things puppet, this special collaboration promises a wide array of puppet styles, varieties and themes. The night includes everything from pieces-in-progress, somber wares and flamboyant experiments. Tickets for $12.

Radio Star
April 26 @ 8:00PM
Horse Trade Theater Group - The Red Room - 85 East 4th Street
Watch (but mainly listen) as Tanya O'Debra lends her voice to ten different characters while simultaneously staging silly sound effects in this filthy, filthy, dirty 1940's radio detective spoof. Tickets for $12, students/seniors $10.
