Rising Circle Theater will produce a 29-hour workshop reading of Say Something, as part of their next-stage play development program The Refinery, featuring Angel Desai (John Doyle's Company), Bhavesh Patel (War Horse), Jeremy Beck (Betrayed) and Sevan Greene (Aftermath).
Written by Sevan Kaloustian Greene and directed by Kareem Fahmy, the play is a black comedy about racial profiling and terrorism post 9/11. Joe is a terrorist. Or - is he? At least he looks like one. Or - does he? He's an angry young man. Or - no, wait, yes he is. But when his anger gets the best of him not even his "urban" cousin Thumper or volunteer girlfriend-lawyer Anna can stop him from going too far. Throw in a couple of Homeland Security agents, their booze-induced fashionista roommate Lyda, and the nosey Jamaican landlord Ms. B, and he's in for a hell of a weekend. But he's an American, so he'll be fine. Or - will he?
The cast also includes Nandita Shenoy, Peter McCain and Candice McKoy.
Say Something was developed as part of Rising Circle's INKTank writer's lab in 2010. Greene is also a member of the 2011 Public Theater Emerging Writers Group. Kareem Fahmy is currently assisting directing on the NYTW production of Once, slated to make it's Broadway bow in February 2012.
The reading will take place at Theatre 54 in Shetler Studios on December 12 at 2:30pm and 7pm. Tickets are free and may be reserved by e-mailing info@risingcircle.org.
