Akademeia Theatre Stages Kathleen Potts' MISS NOWHERE DINER, Now thru 6/23

Akad?meia Theatre presents Miss Nowhere Diner, a play about the power of faith, the lure of deceit by Kathleen Potts. Lydia Fort directs a cast of six including Branden Baskin, Lex Daemon, Salina Duplessis, Jennifer Roberts, Miriam Tabb, and Corey Wright*. Six performances for Miss Nowhere Diner will be held at the Robert Moss Theatre, 440 Lafayette Street, NYC from tonight, June 13-23 as part of The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. The Festivity will take place May 29th through June 23rd at Gene Frankel and Robert Moss Theatres in New York City. *Member, Actors' Equity Association. AEA Showcase.

Gambling, promises, denial, lies, and a trucker/preacher who thinks of his flock "not as sheep, but as deer in the headlights of life." As each character's outlook is altered, the audience is left to decide what truly constitutes conversion - what truly constitutes change.

"Miss Nowhere Dinercontributes to the revolution by giving our audience a mirror through which we see ourselves, and through which we can gain the courage to re-determine, to change, and to see hope where there was none. What things and people do we put our faith in? Why do we take these risks when the 'odds of winning' are so slim? Why do we put our faith in others, but not in ourselves?'"

Kathleen Potts (Playwright) is an alumna of Columbia University School of the Arts' MFA in Theatre program and also a member of the Dramatists Guild. Other honors include: Eugene O'Neill Center Playwriting Fellow, KC/ACTF (Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival) "Lorraine Hansberry Award" for her play MISS NOWHERE DINER (Dramatic Publishing Company). Recent plays have been seen in the Manhattan Theatre Source's "Spontaneous Combustion Festival," the Dark Lady Players' "Amelia Festival," and Manhattan Repertory Theatre's Summer One Act Play series. Previous residencies included the "Mondays at Monarch" reading series at Monarch Theater and membership in "Sourcewriters" at the Manhattan Theatre Source. Potts' interview with Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist Quiara Alegría Hudes was published in the online magazine Guernica: A Magazine of Art & Politics (www.guernicamag.com/interviews/water-by-the-spoonful/).
