Ailís Ní Ríain's THE TALLEST MAN IN THE WORLD To Receive NYC Premiere At The Tank

The Tank (Meghan Finn and Rosalind Grush, Artistic Directors) will present the New York Premiere of The Tallest Man in the World by Ailís Ní Ríain (Desolate Heaven with Theatre503 in London), directed by Ran Xia (Independent Study at The Tank), at The Tank (312 West 36th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues), March 6-17.

Performances will be on Wednesday, March 6 at 7pm, Thursday, March 7 at 7pm, Friday, March 8 at 7pm, Saturday, March 9 at 7pm, Sunday, March 10 at 3pm, Wednesday, March 13 at 7pm, Thursday, March 14 at 7pm, Friday, March 15 at 7pm, Saturday, March 16 at 7pm, and Sunday, March 17 at 3pm. Tickets ($25) are available for advance purchase at www.thetanknyc.org. The performance will run approximately 80 minutes, with no intermission.

The Tallest Man in the World is a play about an unspeakable love, almighty difference and the torment of memory. Poetic, rhythmic and highly nuanced, a 'trio' for voices. The Tallest Man in the World was a finalist in the prestigious USA Eugene O' Neill National Playwright's Conference and was selected for the 2017 Great Plains Theater Conference in Nebraska.

The cast will include Daniel Carlton* (The Meeting; Scribbling at The Automat), Finn Kilgore* (Old Names for Wildflowers at The Tank), and Beatriz Miranda* (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea at A.C.T.) with Lighting Design by Anthony Dean (The Infinite Wrench with the New York Neo-Futurists) and Costume and Scenic Design by Sean Devare. The production Stage Manager will be Christian Roberson.

Ailís Ní Ríain (Playwright) Although her formal artistic training has been in classical music as a composer and pianist, Ailís is also a writer. Her first play, BEATEN has received five productions in UK, Ireland, Germany and Sweden. Desolate Heaven was produced by Theatre503 in 2013 in London to strong reviews. It received a second production at the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork in 2015 and was long-listed for the James Tait Black Award. The Tallest Man in the World was premiered by Corcadorca Theatre Company in Cork, Ireland in 2014 and shortlisted for the prestigious Eugene O' Neill Playwright's Conference USA. In June 2017 The Tallest Man in the World received a staged reading at the Great Plains Theatre Conference, USA. In March 2017 Manifold received a staged reading at La Mama Theatre in New York and Corcadorca Theatre Company presented extracts from a new play Manifold in Cork, Ireland. She is published by Bloomsbury and Nick Hern Books.

Ran Xia (Director) is an interdisciplinary theatre artist originally from Shanghai, China. As a playwright, her works have been produced at IRT (Pomegrenade), HERE (Harmony), Dixon Place (North, They Lived in the Attic, Princess Anybody, etc.), The Brick ([ai]), The Wild Project (Byron in Velvet Dance Shoes, Dirt), The Cell (De Profundis) etc. and The Tank (previously Echo; Tao at Dark Fest 2018). She's a frequent collaborator of Exquisite Corpse Co. (audio/visual installation Echo at the Memory House, on Governors Island). As a director, she most recently directed the world premiere of Ben Gassman's Independent Study at the Tank, and is a current Resident Director at The Flea, and a resident artist at Access Theater. The third of her sound sculpture trilogy, Siren (after Harmony in 2016-2017 and Echo in 2018), will also premiere later this year at the Tank. Assistant Directing credits include: The Great Leap (by Lauren Yee, Dir. Taibi Magar at the Atlantic Theater), Baby Fat: Act I (Dir. Michael Scholar Jr. at La Mama). and Refrigerated Dreams by Carrie Mae Weems, Nona Hendryx, Francesca Harper, and Niegel Smith at Joe's Pub.
