Edmund Gaynes has announced the new comedy Hebrew School Dropout, Or: How I Converted from Judaism to Catholicism and Back to Judaism AND Lost Those Stubborn Last 10 Pounds!, by Dave Konig, the three-time Emmy Award winning comedian. Performances will begin April 24th at Actors Temple Theatre (339 West 47th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). Opening Night is set for May 19th. Pamela Hall directs.

Three-time Emmy Award winning comedian Dave Konig takes theatergoers on a journey of faith...with really bad Mapquest directions! In this hilarious and touching new comedy, Konig goes from being a "lousy" Jew who doesn't fit in with the good Jews ("It's like they all spoke a secret language I didn't know. Actually they did - it's called Hebrew"), to a convert to Catholicism ("I was attracted to the camaraderie of Catholicism as depicted in such movies as The Godfather, and The Godfather Part Two- actually, my desire to be a Catholic might have really been a desire to be an Italian"), to a national spokesman for the Catholic Church as a radio host on Sirius' The Catholic Channel ("I felt out of place. It's like they all spoke a secret language I didn't know. Actually they did - it's called Latin..."), to maybe an ever-so-slightly-better-than-lousy Jew. In between he experiences life-changing encounters with Marisa Tomei, Adam Sandler, Deepak Chopra, and two of The Three Stooges! This is a show for anyone who's ever had faith, lost faith, found new faith, or just had a plain, old mid-life crisis. You don't have to be Jewish, or Catholic (or Zorastrian even!) to love Hebrew School Dropout. It's like Levy's Jewish Rye bread - with a schmear of mayonnaise.

Konig hosted his own late-night HBO comedy series (the infamous Hardcore TV), wrote, produced, and starred in the cult hit talk show parody The Dave Konig Show on USA Network, and won all his Emmys for the hilarious Konig Underground segments on Metro (NY) TV's Subway Q & A. He also appeared in the hit revival of Grease on Broadway.
