What does a video designer do? What do video designers think about as they create? These are just some of the questions that will be explored at 3-Legged Dog's new series, 3LD SALON: The Video Designer.
The 3LD SALON: The Video Designer features a conversation with the video designers Phil Gulley (The Kennedy Center, The Ontological-Hysteric Theatre, The Foundry, The Civilians), Andrew Lazarow (Transport Group's House for Sale), and Ray Sun Ruey-Horng (Rocky das Musical, dir. Alex Timbers), and includes samples of their theatrical work. The discussions will explore their aesthetic and their approach to working with writers and directors. The designers, in conjunction with Built For Collapse, will premiere three new 5-minute video designs for Built For Collapse's new performance piece, We Were Wild Once, directed by Sanaz Ghajarrahimi. A fifteen-minute sneak peak of the show that highlights the three videos as a production medium will be shown as part of the 3LD SALON.
3LD SALON is an invitation for producers, creators and consumers of multidisciplinary artwork and performance to interact with professionals usually restricted to behind-the-scenes positions. The process of theatrical designers will be the focus of discussion and showcased in practice for all members of the artistic community to consider.
