Visual artist and performance maker Dylan Stephen Levers will premier his latest work, 18 Paintings, on May 4th-7th at HERE Spring Artist Lodge. This dance-theatre piece features a cast of dancers and actors including Laurel Atwell, Kirstan Clifford, Megan Hanley, Daniel Joseph LeBlanc, Carolyn McCandlish, Olivia Mora and Peter Rothbard.

18 Paintings explores the nexus between visual art and theater. This series of painterly vignettes uses elements of iconography, duration, color, shape, and line to explore questions of how we looks at paintings versus theater. In a theatrical setting, what is a canvas? What is paint? When does a painting begin and end? This humorous take on some of visual art's most iconic imagery calls into question the creative act of viewing art.

The creative team includes Liz Jenetopolus (set), Charlie Winter (lighting), Savana Leveille (costumes), Kevin Brouder (sound design) and Ien Denio (additional sound design and puppetry). 18 Paintings is stage managed by Chaelieghla Davis and produced by Eve Rybnick.

18 Paintings previously received a workshop at INTAR's The Pound Young Artists Residency in New York and at the Dragon's Egg in Ledyard, CT. Read more about the creation of 18 Paintingson Levers' blog at dylanstephenlevers.blogspot.com.

This production is a part of the Artists Lodge series of HEREstay, HERE's curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical and administrative support.

The show will play May 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th at 7pm and May 7th at 2pm. Tickets are $15. HERE Arts Center is located at 145 6th Avenue (Enter on Dominick, 1 Block South of Spring).
