In his latest column, Michael Riedel of the New York Post has speculated on a Broadway future for "The Band's Visit," the critically acclaimed new musical currently running at the Atlantic Theater,
The musical, directed by David Cromer, and featuring a score by David Yazbek is currently enjoyed a second extension of sold-out performances off-Broadway But though "The Band's Visit" is schedule to close at the Atlantic on January 8th, well in advance of Tony season, sources close to the show predict a fall 2017 opening for the critical darling.
Citing a lack of space availability needed move the show for the current Broadway season, a source told Riedel, "We need a decent-size house, and so far it doesn't look like any will be available till the fall. We're not in a rush."
The Band's Visit began previews November 11th and was initially extended through January 1st in advance of opening December 8th to unanimous critical acclaim Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company's Linda Gross Theater. It promptly sold out the remainder of the engagement.
