The Tony and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.) will continue its popular VINEYARD VOICES - a series of panel discussions with leading figures from the theatre community - on Monday, November 22 at 7 p.m. with an evening entitled, "THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS: From Inception to Broadway," it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, Artistic Director of Vineyard Theatre.

The evening will be moderated by theater journalist and critic David Rooney and will feature a panel consisting of theatre critics Elisabeth Vincentelli (New York Post) and Steven Suskin (Variety), actors from the cast of "The Scottsboro Boys" Colman Domingo and Sharon Washington and Tony-nominated bookwriter David Thompson ("The Scottsboro Boys," "Steel Pier") in a discussion focusing on the musical THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS and the complexities of developing theatre from the more risk-free environment of Off-Broadway to the bright lights of the Broadway arena.

Now in its second year, VINEYARD VOICES offers an opportunity for audiences and artists to go behind-the-scenes and hear the voices of theatre professionals with insightful, colorful anecdotes and observations about working in the theatre.

The most recent VINEYARD VOICES panel "Law & Order and The Stage" featured actors Sam Waterston, Linus Roache and Annie Parisse along with writer Gina Gionfriddo in a discussion about the relationship and cross-over between the NY-based television series "Law and Order," and the New York theater community.

With music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, book by David Thompson, and with choreography and direction by Susan Stroman, THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS -- a stirring musical that explores the infamous 1930's 'Scottsboro Case', in which a group of innocent African-American teenagers are falsely accused of a terrible crime - was a critical and popular success when the Vineyard produced the musical's world-premiere in March 2010. The musical played 10 sold-out weeks at The Vineyard last spring. THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS recently transferred to Broadway - with the Vineyard Theatre continuing as a producer of the musical - opening October 31 at the Lyceum Theatre.

Vineyard Theatre is the recipient of the Tony Award for the musical AVENUE Q and continues as producer of the musical's current production at New World Stages in New York. The Vineyard is producer of the musical THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS - with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, book by David Thompson, with direction and choreography Susan Stroman - now on Broadway. The Vineyard has also produced the musical [title of show] on Broadway. One of the nation's leading non-profit theatre companies dedicated to new plays and musicals and bold programming, The Vineyard has produced the Pulitzer Prize-winning productions of Edward Albee's THREE TALL WOMEN and Paula Vogel's HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE. The Vineyard has consistently premiered provocative, groundbreaking works and developed innovative educational collaborations. Recent productions include Tarell Alvin McCraney's acclaimed WIG OUT!. The 2009-2010 season saw several enormously Popular Productions at The Vineyard, including: A BOY AND HIS SOUL, written and performed by Colman Domingo, the world premiere of Adam Rapp's THE METAL CHILDREN and (along with Playwrights Horizons) the new musical THE BURNT PART BOYS by Mariana Elder, Nathan Tysen and Chris Miller, directed by Joe Calarco.

Douglas Aibel is Artistic Director of Vineyard Theatre; Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell is Executive Director.
