Award-winner Trent Armand Kendall's PICTURE INCOMPLETE will open at the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival on Tuesday, July 10 at the 45th Street Theatre (354 West 45th Street – between Eighth & Ninth Avenues) where it will play through Saturday, July 21.
After receiving across-the-board critical acclaim in national concerts, on Broadway and on the West End; while starring on tour in "The Color Purple" Trent Armand Kendall began writing his own musical, PICTURE INCOMPLETE.
Collaborating with the great Michael Polese, the musical started to take shape and garner the kind of buzz back in New York that attracted the best musicians in other zip codes and signaled theatre owners that a lucrative project is on its way.
The musical was rehearsed, read, workshopped and performed in town and out-of-town. The results were glorious. The reviews were sensational.
It then launched a sold-out 2011 Northeast Tour at New Jersey's Luna Stage , the June Havoc Theatre, for the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex's SUNDAY SERIES and the Studio Theatre on Theatre Row for The United Solo Theatre Festival.
Produced by the New York Musical Theatre Festival and Onemoe Music, PICTURE INCOMPLETE has music and lyrics by Michael Polese and a book and additional lyrics by Trent Armand Kendall. Starring Mr. Kendall, the musical has been directed by Greg Ganakas. Choreography is by Brian Harlan Brooks. Lights and sound have been designed by Joshua Scherr. Costumes have been designed by Samuel Ciardi. Wigs have been designed by Joy Marcelle. Geoff Cohen is the General Manager. Jason A. Quinn is the Production Stage Manager.
Damon DueWhite is on drums. Emanuel "Chulo" Gatewood is on bass. Musical direction and arrangements are by Adam Kipple, who is also on keyboards and organ.
PICTURE INCOMPLETE is an electrically-charged-soul-stirring-foot-stomping-hit-em-fast-and-hit-em-hard new musical that merges the storytelling styles of Whoopi Goldberg, Dennis Miller, Bill Cosby, Spalding Gray and Bette Midler.
Author Trent Armand Kendall plays the Storyteller. On the occasion of his birthday, unable to make sense of his cluttered surroundings and too cautious to move forward, the storyteller has a drink, a smoke and cleans house.
Feeling older, but not wiser, he searches for some worth in his discarded items and his past.
PICTURE INCOMPLETE examines the neat little boxes into which we put each other and ourselves as it introduces us to daring and comedic characters including Clarence (a homeless man), Mavis (a know-it-all neighbor) and her two sons De Ron (a pretend thug) and Fred Jr. (an emerging gay fashion designer living life on his own terms). We also spend time with a pill-pushing psychiatrist called Dr. Feelgood and prophetic preacher called Righteous Reverend who urges his congregation to "Be Incomplete!"
