The award-winning Toy Box Theatre Company kicks off its 9th season with the premiere of their original adaptation of Woyzeck, Georg Büchner's unfinished working-class tragedy. Colonna Sonora, 2010 New York Innovative Theatre Awards nominee for best original music, will provide a live acoustic score, and members of the critically acclaimed production team of Toy Box's 2009 'Tis Pity She's a Whore return to bring this multidisciplinary work to life.  Performances will be at Choicirciati Cultural Center, 64 E. 4th Street, New York, NY beginning October 22, 2010.

Toy Box's adaptation is set in a small Midwestern town in the midst of winter and at the depths of the current recession. Woyzeck scrounges for work, battles with paranoia, drinks his breakfast, and struggles to provide the bare essentials for his family.  Ultimately, Woyzeck watches his dignity and sanity slip away as he wrestles with the painful realities of life.

Woyzeck is Toy Box Theatre Company's 10th full-scale production and their third adaptation of a classical work.  Toy Box's previous productions have been awarded 'Excellence in Playwrighting' from The New York International Fringe Festival, 'Best Original Score' from The New York Innovative Theatre Awards and have recently received a second nomination for 'Best Original Score' from The New York Innovative Theatre Awards.

Written and Directed by Toy Box founder and co-artistic director Jonathan Barsness, Woyzeck features Juan Luis Acevedo, Ron Bopst, Ryan Colwell, Sarah Hankins, David Michael Holmes, Ryan Reilly, Claire Schmidt, original choreography by Elisabeth Motley and original music composed and performed by Colonna Sonora.

Opening Friday, October 22, Woyzeck will run for 13 performances at the Choicirciati Cultural Center located on the Fourth Arts Block (64. E. 4th St.), closing on Friday, November 12. The performances on October 22, 23, 29, 30 and November 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12 will be 8 p.m., and performances on October 24 and October 31 will be at 3 p.m. and will be followed by a champagne toast and talk-back with the director, musicians, cast, and crew.  Tickets are $18 and can be reserved at www.toyboxtheatre.org.
