Tom Dugan's WIESENTHAL Begins Performances Tonight at Theatre Row

Tony Award winner Daryl Roth (Kinky Boots, The Normal Heart) and Karyl Lynn Burns (The Best is Yet to Come) present the New York premiere of Wiesenthal, the award-winning play written by and starring Tom Dugan and directed by Jenny Sullivan. Wiesenthal launches a limited 14-week engagement, from tonight, October 24 through February 1, at the Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row, (410 W. 42nd Street). Opening night is November 5.

Filled with hope, humanity and humor, Wiesenthal is the inspiring true story of Simon Wiesenthal. Sometimes referred to as "the Jewish James Bond," Wiesenthal escaped death at the hands of Hitler's S.S., lost 89 family members, and devoted more than six decades to bringing Nazi war criminals to justice. Part memoir and part spy thriller, Dugan's play introduces us to Wiesenthal on the day before his retirement as he welcomes his final group of Americans to his office in The Jewish Documentation Center in Vienna.

"I am thrilled to make my New York debut with Wiesenthal," says Dugan. "My father was a WWII veteran who received The Bronze Battle Star and The Purple Heart. He liberated the Buchenwald Concentration Camp in 1945. Although I was raised Irish Catholic, I later married a Jewish woman, and now we are raising our two boys in the Jewish faith, so Simon Wiesenthal's message of tolerance has a deep resonance for me considering my father's place in Jewish history and my future in the Jewish community. Intelligent, funny, flawed and noble, Wiesenthal was a true and universal 20th Century hero as he not only fought for the rights of Jewish Holocaust victims, but Soviet, Polish, Gypsy, Jehovah's Witness and homosexual victims as well."

Wiesenthal launches a limited 14-week engagement, from today, October 24 through February 1, at the Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row, (410 W. 42nd Street). Opening night is November 5. Performances are Tuesdays and Thursday at 7pm, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturday at 8pm, with matinees Saturdays at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

TOM DUGAN (Simon Wiesenthal/Playwright) received the Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award and three Ovation nominations for his portrayal of Simon Wiesenthal. Mr. Dugan's Los Angeles and regional theatre credits include Amadeus, Misery, The Man Who Came To Dinner, and On Golden Pond (starring Jack Klugman). His TV and Film credits include "Friends," "Bones," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Kindergarten Cop, Dave, The Naked Gun, and his personal favorite Leprechaun III. He is also an accomplished playwright whose critically acclaimed one-man play Oscar to Oscar, Robert E. Lee - Shades of Gray, The Ghosts of Mary Lincoln, and Frederick Douglass - In the Shadow of Slavery (starring Broadway's Mel Johnson, Jr.) have been produced in over three dozen cities across the United States and Canada.

KARYL LYNN BURNS (Producer)founded Rubicon Theatre Companywith husband James O'Neil and has been Producing Artistic Director for the company for 16 years. Last summer she accepted the New York Drama Desk Award for the Off-Broadway run of Rubicon's production of The Best is Yet to Come: The Music of Cy Coleman (directed by David Zippel with a cast including David Burnham, Howard McGillin, Sally Mayes, Billy Stritch, Rachel York and Lillias White). Under her direction, Rubicon has also received the Los Angeles Drama Critics' Margaret Harford Special Award for Sustained Excellence, and multiple Ovation, NAACP and Indy Awards. Karyl Lynn has overseen morethan 100 productions for the company,including more than 20 World Premieres.
