THE ENCHANTED PIG Plays its final performance on 2/21 at The New Victory Theater.

In this off-beat and funny fairytale of musical entertainment, beauty meets the beast once again when Princess Flora, the youngest of three gangly, gum-chewing sisters, learns her betrothed is a boar. Swept off to the north, she discovers (of course!) that her hoggy hubby is hexed and only she can break the spell. Follow Flora from palace to pigsty in this twisty tale of mud and marriage. Sometimes, a girl's just gotta go out and rescue the prince for herself!

Mr. Dove, Mr. Middleton and Mr. Fulljames are three esteemed U.K. artists who have successfully introduced opera to young audiences - a challenging proposition. In a December 11 London Times article describing Mr. Dove as "the wizard of contemporary children's opera," he said, "Children need to feel an entitlement in the opera house, and if that means creating rep that is more welcoming, that can only be a good thing."

The Enchanted Pig, originally written for the re-opening of the Young Vic in 2006, took over The Royal Opera House's Linbury Studio for 23 performances this holiday season during a run that was highly successful with audiences and critics. The production arrives in New York for its only stop in the U.S. before going back to further tour the UK.

The Enchanted Pig features a live, six-piece band and a cast of 10 performers. Set design is by Dick Bird, lighting design is by Bruno Poet, and movement is by Philippe Giraudeau.

The cast features Susan Boyd and Karina Lucas (alternating as Flora), Simon Wilding (Pig), Michelle Cornelius (Princess Dot), Beverley Klein (Fate/Mrs. Northwind), Kate Nelson (Princess Mab), Terel Nugent (King of the West), Jo Servi (King Hildebrand/The North Wind), Tom Solomon (King of the East/Moon). Band members include musical directors Ian Watson and Edward Hessian, Ruth Potter, Julian Warburton, Mark Townsend, Michael Atkinson and Elena Hull.

The Young Vic last appeared at The New Victory Theater in 2005 with their production of Sleeping Beauty.

The Enchanted Pig is best for ages 7 to adult. Please see newvictory.org for libretto highlights.
