The Joyce Theater, New York's home for dance, will welcome 21 renowned companies over 38 weeks this spring and summer. The season will include stars from the worlds of ballet and Broadway, presenting premieres and popular favorites. Tickets for all programs go on sale to the general public on December 1 and can be purchased at www.Joyce.org or by calling JoyceCharge at (212) 242-0800.

Kicking off the 2010 spring / summer season will be the long awaited return of the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, which will present three programs with two world premieres during its two-week engagement. Immediately following Lubovitch, Lyon Opera Ballet will present the world premiere of Ralph Lemon's Rescuing the Princess. This piece, a Joyce 25th Anniversary Commission, will be part of a program that also features works by Merce Cunningham, Maguy Marin and William Forsythe.

Having made its first Joyce appearance in 2005, the Richmond Ballet will return to The Joyce to kick-off its 30th Anniversary Season. The company will present two programs of works that showcase its versatility and impeccable technique. The Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company will perform the works of the late Alwin Nikolais, a centennial celebration of the artist. The program is a retrospective of repertoire, which spans over sixty years. Acclaimed for his contribution to modern dance and his early use of multimedia, Nikolais was the choreographer, composer, scenic and costume designer for all his works. Appropriately following the Nikolais season will be the return of MOMIX. Artistic Director Moses Pendleton, for whom Nikolais was a major influence, will present two weeks of last year's hit Botanica and two weeks of MOMIX reMIX, featuring a collection of company highlights.

Making their debuts at The Joyce this summer, choreographers Andrea Miller, Camille Brown, Monica B. Barnes and Kate Weare will present works over a shared week-long engagement. Also sharing a week at The Joyce, will be three of the nation's most revered companies: ABT II, Ailey 2 and Taylor 2 who will perform in the 123 Festival, a perfect opportunity to see all three companies, on one stage.

After a wonderful Joyce debut last year, KEIGWIN+COMPANY presents a program that will include a world premiere, Nature, using Keigwin's signature theatricality and athleticism. For its highly anticipated return, the John Jasperse Company, not seen at The Joyce since 2001, will present its new work Truth, Revised Histories, Wishful Thinking, and Flat Out Lies, co-commissioned by The Joyce Theater's Stephen and Cathy Weinroth Fund for New Work. As The New York Times says, "When John Jasperse makes a new work, it should be seen: end of story." DanceBrazil will add just the right amount of passion and heat to the city during its March engagement. The company will present the premiere of Fluxo and Refluxo, along with the acclaimed Banguela, created in 2009.

The Stephen Petronio Company returns to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a program that includes Petronio's signature #3, a work set to music by Lenny Pickett, musical director and band frontman for Saturday Night Live; a work set to Radiohead's Creep; and a world premiere set to an award-winning orchestral score by Jonny Greenwood. Savion Glover hoofs back onto the Joyce Stage with what is sure to be an exciting performance of extraordinary tap and sensational sounds. The "Mother of Modern Dance" will take over when the Martha Graham Dance Company restages American Documents, a work from 1938 that is startlingly relevant to our time.

And Pilobolus. Back for its annual 4-week takeover of NYC, this audience favorite will kick-off its 40th Anniversary Season at The Joyce, presenting a season that includes three distinct programs, each containing a premiere.

The following is a complete and more detailed roster of companies that will be appearing at The Joyce Theater in the spring / summer of 2010. Please note that Richard Kornberg & Associates represents the companies for which it is listed as the press agent. Other company press agents are included for reference.

Four gifted female choreographers make their Joyce debuts in one week of alternating programs designed to showcase the talents of these young artists. Camille A. Brown, known to audiences from the work she has created for Urban Bush Women and Alvin Aliey American Dance Theater, now comes to The Joyce with her own ensemble. Joining Brown is Andrea Miller, whose company, Gallim Dance, has exploded onto the national dance scene with technical virtuosity and strikingly physical works.

In an alternate program, Kate Weare Company and Monica Bill Barnes & Company share the stage in an evening of dance that pairs Barnes' charmingly rickety, beautifully tawdry, and profoundly good-hearted pieces with Weare's wildly ferocious, startling, and highly sensuous work.

All four artists take the stage for an afternoon performance on Saturday, August 14.

DANCE CHATS
The Joyce Theater holds free post-performance dialogues (formerly called "Humanities") with artistic directors and/or company members following the performance on the first Wednesday of each company's engagement. These dialogues are open to all audience members attending that evening's performance.

Created to help build dance audiences for the future, The Joyce's popular family-oriented performance series will return this fall with three family-friendly matinees, each followed by a special chance to meet the artists. Kids' tickets are only $10. Children who see two of the three family matinees automatically become Joyce Junior Members and save 40% on the price of their tickets ($10 reduced to $6). Children, ages 6-14, must be accompanied by an adult (maximum four kids to one grownup). Joyce Junior Members get a special "Backstage-at-the-Joyce" tour, a T-shirt and gift coupons.

ABOUT The Joyce Theater
The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, has proudly served the dance community and its audiences since 1982. The founders, Cora Cahan and Eliot Feld, acquired and renovated the Elgin Theater in Chelsea, which opened as The Joyce Theater in 1982. The Joyce is named in honor of Joyce Mertz, beloved daughter of LuEsther T. Mertz. It was LuEsther's clear, undaunted vision and abundant generosity that made it imaginable and ultimately possible to establish the theater. One of the only theaters built by dancers for dance, The Joyce Theater has provided an intimate and elegant New York home for more than 300 domestic and international companies. The Joyce has also commissioned more than 130 new dances since 1992. In 1996, The Joyce created Joyce SoHo, a dance center providing highly subsidized rehearsal and performance space to hundreds of dance artists. New York City public school students and teachers annually benefit from The Joyce's Dance Education Program, and adult audiences get closer to dance through pre-engagement Dance Talks and post-performance "Dance Chat" discussions. The Joyce Theater now features an annual season of approximately 48 weeks with over 340 performances for audiences in excess of 135,000. Additionally, for the last six years The Joyce has co-produced Evening Stars as part of the River To River Festival in Lower Manhattan.
