TUTA Theatre Announces Off-Broadway Premiere of THE EDGE OF OUR BODIES Image

TUTA Theatre is pleased to announce the New York Off-Broadway premiere of THE EDGE OF OUR BODIES, by Pulitzer Prize finalist Adam Rapp (Red Light Winter, Blackbird, The Hallway Trilogy), directed by Artistic Director Jacqueline Stone (The Silent Language, The Anyway Cabaret), and featuring Carolyn Molloy (The Edge of Our Bodies, The Jewels, The Silent Language).

THE EDGE OF OUR BODIES begins performances at 59E59 Theaters (59 E 59th St, New York, NY) on Wednesday, April 4, and closes on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

After its successful 2015 run of the New York premiere production, Music Hall, TUTA Theatre returns to 59E59 Theaters for the New York premiere of THE EDGE OF OUR BODIES, by acclaimed American writer and Pulitzer Prize finalist Adam Rapp. This "vibrant, funny, and a little dangerous" (Chicago Tribune) theatrical event follows 16 year old Bernadette, an aspiring young writer, as she journeys through New York City and teeters on the verge of adulthood. A unique coming of age story, hailed as "an act of amazing preparation, vulnerability and spontaneity" (Newcity), this "brave production of a haunting play" (Performink) paints an honest and delicate portrait of our teenage years; at times uncertain, always full of yearning, lost somewhere in the space between the child we once were and the adult we desperately dream of becoming.

Rapp, a prominent American novelist, playwright, screenwriter, director and musician made his TUTA debut with the Chicago premiere of THE EDGE OF OUR BODIES in 2016. An Illinois native, born and raised in Joliet, Rapp's unique understanding of the Midwest underscores much of his writing, which masterfully explores and dissects the culture of Chicago. A recurring motif in his stories is a departure from the Midwest for a new life in NYC, the path that Rapp himself followed. As TUTA's THE EDGE OF OUR BODIES makes this same journey, the urban landscape of the play's setting pays tribute to the role of the great American city in our collective imagination.

THE EDGE OF OUR BODIES will feature the return of Carolyn Molloy (TUTA's The Edge of Our Bodies, The Jewels and The Silent Language), under the direction of Artistic Director Jacqueline Stone. Design and technical collaborators include movement direction by Aileen McGroddy; set design by Martin Andrew, lighting design by Keith Parham; costume design by Branimira Ivanova; sound design by Joe Court; and prop design by Leticia Guillard.
