TOGETHER THIS TIME is a contemporary rock musical about love, literature and letting go. When a hot shot novelist tries to reconnect with his girlfriend (who also happens to be his editor) and his art, he finds he can no longer tell the difference between real life and his fiction.
Jay Allen Jones had it all. His acclaimed first novel made him the king of literary New York almost overnight. It also won him the heart of editor Emily Grey. But as any artist knows, replicating success the second time around, well that's not so easy. Jay fears he's reached the pinnacle of his career, but he's only just begun.Reeling and desperate for a simpler life, Jay and Emily retreat to Colorado where he embarks on a new novel: the story of an 18-year-old named Jamie Gower who is endlessly happy there with his girlfriend, Gillian. Jay Becomes obsessed with Jamie's world, and he refuses to let Emily in. Powerless as their relationship falls apart, Emily returns to New York - an act that leads Jay on a whirlwind quest to find his identity and his voice.
What follows is a journey through sleepy Colorado towns and the literary circles of New York where Jay must figure out his novel and his real life. Sometimes, he discovers, the art we create can take us away from the ones we love, but very often it also brings us home.
Leading the cast are MAC and Bistro Award Winner Jonathan Whitton (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) as Jay and Tro Shaw (West Side Story, Broadway Revival) as Emily. Ron Bopst, Derek Carley and Sandy York are featured as Jay and Emily's friends and family. Andrew Redlawsk and Emily Olson populate the world of Jay's novel as Jamie and Gillian. Rounding out the cast are Doug Cordes, Lee Mason, Rebecca Odorisio and Elysia Segal.Mr. Heyman and Mr. Kline received their MFAs from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, Tisch, NYU.
