Scandinavian American Theater Company (SATC) will present the US Premiere of THEN SILENCE by award-winning Norwegian playwright Arne Lygre, translated by May-Brit Akerholt. Directed by Sarah Cameron Sunde, previews begin June 4 at The Lion Theatre at Theatre Row. Opening night of this limited run Off-Broadway engagement is set for June 7.
THEN SILENCE tells a series of stories about humanity and its struggles with power, domination, loss, mortality and ultimately, survival. The times we live in are wrought with brothers and sisters fighting and disagreeing with one another, but is there hope to be found...somewhere? THEN SILENCE turns a mirror on human behavior that asks us all to consider and, hopefully, learn. THEN SILENCE stars Denmark's Morten Holst (who earned Bodil Award nomination -- the Danish Oscar -- for Best Supporting Actor for the film Brotherhood), Kwasi Osei (Bastards of Strindberg), and Christiane Julie Louis (Boardwalk Empire as Sigrid Mueller opposite Michael Shannon). The production team includes Lauren Helpern (set), Derek Van Heel (lighting), Joseph S. Blaha (costumes), Brenda Bauer (sound), Nzinga Williams (stage manager), Drew O'Kane (associate director & production manager) and Albert Bendix (artistic director). Arne Lygre is a rising contemporary Norwegian playwright. In 2004 he received the prestigious literary award Brageprisen for In Time, a collection of short stories and the Norwegian Ibsen Award in 2013 for the play I Disappear. His plays have been performed all over the world including Paris, Chicago, Sao Paulo, Zurich and throughout Scandinavia in The National Theatre in Oslo and The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, among other prominent venues.Videos
