Julie White and Theresa Rebeck have been featured in The New York Times Arts and Leisure section. The article titled "One Writes, the Other Acts. Sparks Fly" is written by Kate Taylor and was printed on November 1, 2009.

The article begins: "ONLY in the theater could one woman put another in so many humiliating situations and the two still consider each other friends. Even more than friends: a stellar team.

'Sometimes I feel that my job on earth is to put Julie White through horrible things, watch her writhe and then recover,' the playwright Theresa Rebeck said with a laugh the other day. She was sitting next to Ms. White, her friend and frequent muse, in the lobby of the Laura Pels Theater, where the Roundabout Theater production of "The Understudy," a backstage comedy starring Ms. White as a put-upon stage manager running an understudy rehearsal for a Kafka play, opens on Thursday."

The Understudy opens officially on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street). This is a limited engagement through Sunday, January 3rd, 2010.

The design team includes Alexander Dodge (Sets), Tom Broecker (Costumes), Kenneth Posner (Lights), Obadiah Eaves (Original Music & Sound).

Box office heroes and washed-up has-beens take heed: the play's almost the thing. In this bitingly witty and entertaining comedy by Theresa Rebeck (Mauritius), the lights of Broadway cast an affectionate glow over this look at one of the most notorious roles in the theatre: the understudy.
