THE GIRL WHO JUMPED OFF THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN Makes Its NY Premiere  Image

KADM Productions has announced dates for the New York City premiere of THE GIRL WHO JUMPED OFF THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN, a solo show written and performed by South Australian theatre maker Joanne Hartstone. Featuring songs composed for Hollywood's brightest stars-Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow, and more-this play with music takes audiences on a nostalgic journey through the Golden Age of Hollywood from a whole new perspective. Previews begin on Tuesday, January 2nd and will run through Sunday, January 21st at Theater for the New City in Manhattan. Set in 1949, THE GIRL WHO JUMPED OFF THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN tells the story of aspiring actress Evie Edwards, who we meet standing on the 50-foot H, looking down at the lights of Los Angeles and the Dream factory know as Hollywood. She has only ever wanted one thing: to be a star. The only problem? No one has ever heard of her. Spanning over 30 years through the Golden Age of Hollywood, The Great Depression, and World War II, this play delves into the hopes and disappointments of the ever fickle and elusive Hollywood dream.

THE GIRL WHO JUMPED OFF THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN played to audiences in Hollywood, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Adelaide Fringe Festival. It won the inaugural Made in Adelaide Award and The Holden Street Theatres' Award for the 2017 Adelaide Fringe. When the show travelled to Hollywood, Joanne won the Producers' Encore Award, TVolution Platinum Medal, Combined Artist & Fringe Management "Pick of the Fringe", Better Lemon's Critics Choice Award, and TVolution Best Solo Show (female) Award, and was nominated for a host of other awards. The subsequent Edinburgh season had sold out shows and garnered a plethora of four and five star reviews and inspired overwhelming audience acclaim.

THE GIRL WHO JUMPED OFF THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN is presented by Theater For The New City, Crystal Field (Executive Director). It is written and performed by Joanne Hartstone, directed by Vince Fusco, produced by Matt Morillo and KADM Productions, featuring production design by Tom Kitney.

Joanne Hartstone is a multi-award winning South Australian theatre maker who produces shows on three different continents. She is an actress, singer, playwright, director, theatre producer, artistic director, and teacher. She has created over 70 productions in the UK, USA, and Australia. She is the Artistic Director of the Noel Lothian Hall in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens for the Adelaide Fringe and has won multiple awards for her shows. Her onstage acting credits include David Mamet's Oleanna, Liam Ormsby's The Storm, and Stephen King's Misery; onscreen performances include Foxtel's Deadline Gallipoli and the History Channel's Changed Forever. www.joannehartstone.com

Director Vince Fusco has previously directed the critically acclaimed South Australian Premiere of Spring Awakening: The Musical, The Crucible, and Gypsy. He has also performed professionally for over 15 years touring across Australia, Europe and Asia, including roles in: Footloose, Kiss Me, Kate, Mozart's The Magic Flute, West Side Story, Shout!, Cats, Ordinary Days and Antillia. Vince has been seen on stage with global children's entertainment group Hi-5 and on-screen in the ABC mini-series Anzac Girls, History Channel's Changed Forever, and Deadline Gallipoli.

Matt Morillo (Producer) has been active in independent film and theater for twenty years. He has written, directed, and produced numerous films including the award-winning comedy Maid of Honor. Put on the map by Theater for the New City, he was a prominent presence in New York's off-off Broadway theater scene for a five year stretch which saw him write and direct the international cult hit Angry Young Women in Low Rise Jeans with High Class Issues, followed by another international cult hit All Aboard the Marriage Hearse. That was followed by American Soldiers and the Edinburgh Fringe award winner The Inventor and The Escort. Performances of THE GIRL WHO JUMPED OFF THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN are on Tuesdays - Fridays at 8PM. Saturdays at 3PM and 8PM and Sundays at 3PM.
