Award winning puppet theatre, THE BAG LADY by Malgosia Szkandera, will begin its international tour at Theatre Row's Studio Theatre (410 W 42nd Street) tonight, January 31, and Saturday, February 1, at 7pm. THE BAG LADY is being presented by Ana Szkandera, in association with Daniel Neiden with the support of The Jim Henson Foundation. Tickets are $21.25 and are available at www.telecharge.com.
THE BAG LADY is a magical journey that tells the story of a lonely woman who uses simple plastic bags to build her own world as she travels through her memories, yearnings, and fantasies: a dancer who cannot dance until she finds her own heart; a gentleman seeking his beloved; a geisha whose bamboo cane is both a flute and an instrument of death. Alone on stage, Malgosia Szkandera explores the wordless poetry of silence as each plastic bag is transformed into a host of different characters in her hands. THE BAG LADY is a winner of the coveted Jim Henson Foundation Award and is perfect for ages 5 to adult.
"It was her stay in New York that gave shape to a few remnants, recycled by Szkandera herself, to form a new and unique spectacle... In a subtle, delicate and evocative way, "The Bag Lady" delves into what is behind unconventional individuals who possess a memory. César Blanco " El Norte de Castilla
