The Assember Dilator, The World Premiere of 31 Down's SciFi sonic meltdown. Starting Thursday, October 8th Through Sunday, October 18th At Performance Space 122 (150 First Avenue, NYC)

In The Assember Dilator, a nurse (Caitlin McDonough-Thayer) assists Dr. Assember (Ryan Holsopple) as he develops an eye drop that will allow him to achieve x-ray vision. The doctor becomes a lab rat in his own medical trial, and is pressured jointly by his drive to uncover alternate realities, and by a funding entity that hopes to get the product out on the market as soon as possible. The nurse watches as the doctor explores the positive and expected effects of x-ray vision, and begins to follow him by taking the eye drops herself, secretly. The play takes a horrific but illuminating turn as the nurse watches the doctor, one step ahead of her, become aware of a deeper reality that eventually pushes him over The Edge.

The Assember Dilator is a sonic meltdown of science fiction and human desperation as funding fuels fetish in this deliciously twisted, hallucinogenic fantasy. 31Down uses its signature blend of technology and striking visual and aural imagery to vividly explore the human itch and twitch beneath the white lab coats of science. Medical advancement collides with exploitation in this large-scale installation as 31 Down's technical ingenuity enhances its story-telling to create a hypo that penetrates your consciousness.

Brooklyn-based 31 Down was formed in 2001. The company creates audio-based performance work with a heavy emphasis on imagery and mood. There is an invested use of new technologies and interactive systems to create and control the performances.

Time Out NY said this of their 2007 production, Universal Robots: "retro-techy audio freakout...a rich, spooky tapestry of radio transmissions, voiceovers (as if we're hearing thoughts) and assorted sonic arcana."

The Assember Dilator is performed by Caitlin McDonough-Thayer and Ryan Holsopple.

It is written by Ryan Holsopple and Shannon Sindelar and directed by Shannon Sindelar.
