T. Schreiber Studio (Artistic Director Terry Schreiber) announced today it will extend its critically acclaimed revival of Lanford Wilson's seminal play BALM IN GILEAD through Sunday, December 12. The play is directed by Peter Jensen. BALM IN GILEAD began previews on October 14 and was originally scheduled to close November 21. After a week break over Thanksgiving, BALM IN GILEAD will resume performances Thursday, December 2, 2010.
"BALM IN GILEAD is one of indie theater's most important works, a beautiful homage to the 1960's and the dreams and hopes of a generation," said T. Schreiber Studio Artistic Director Terry Schreiber. "We are thrilled that audiences have embraced our revival with open arms."For the extension dates, December 2 through 12, the performance schedule is Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm. Tickets are on sale at www.tschreiber.org or (212) 352-3101.BALM IN GILEAD, Lanford Wilson's first full-length play, captures the lives of the disenfranchised, the lost, and the derelicts that hang out at an all-night diner on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Joe and Darlene, two young people who desire better lives, are at the center of the maelstrom, caught in the crosshairs of the turbulent 1960s. Poetic and haunting, BALM IN GILEAD resonates as strongly today as it did at its 1965 premiere at Ellen Stewart's Café LaMama.Directed by Peter Jensen, the BALM IN GILEAD production team includes Matt Brogan (Set Design), Anne Wingate (Costume Design), Eric Cope (Lighting Design), Andy Cohen (Sound Design), Mickey Theis (Composer), Jessica Osborne (Choreographer), Liz Elise Richards* (Stage Manager), Barbara Kielhofer (Producing Director) and Julia Kelly (Assistant Director).
