A trio of award-winning television actresses will guest star in the hit Off-Broadway comedy "You've Got Hate Mail" this August. The play, which takes a hilarious look at sexting, lies and laptops, is now in its second year.
Tonja Walker, best known as "the woman you love to hate," Alex Olanov Hesser Buchanan, on ABC's "One Life to Live," joins the cast on August 5. Meg Bennett, who soap opera fans will recognize as the villainous Allegra on "General Hospital," performs on August 12. Julia Duffy, from TV's "Newhart" and "Designing Women," appears on both August 19 and 26.
Hailed by critics ("The perfect bedroom farce...expertly directed...riotously enacted by a five-person ensemble!" -NY Post) ("A brilliantly written comedy...It doesn't get better than this!" -Show Business) ("A rapid-paced romp with a millennium twist! Hilarious!" -Curtainup.com), "You've Got Hate Mail" is playwrights, Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore's, comic take on the world of online hook-ups and break-ups.
Love 'bytes' all when an extra-marital affair goes horribly wrong after a juicy email is sent in error. The story is told entirely in emails from laptop computers, although the play still manages to have an unforgettable chase scene thanks to Blackberries and iPhones. Starring along with the guest stars are Van Zandt and ensemble cast regulars Glenn Jones, Barbara Bonilla and Fran Solgan. Gary Shaffer directs.
Performances are Fridays at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 - $35 and are available on-line at http://www.smarttix.com or by calling (212) 868-4444. For more information, visit http://www.youvegothatemail.com.
