Now in its 12th season, the Fringe International Encore Series will continue to celebrate the "Best of the Fests" despite there not being a New York International Fringe Festival. This year's selection committee has looked to renowned Fringe Festivals around the globe including Adelaide, Brighton, Edinburgh, Winnipeg and Hollywood Fringe Festivals to fill the slate for the coveted encore performances slots.
The Fringe Encore Series was created to provide opportunities to those Fringe shows that excelled over other Fringe productions both artistically and commercial, by offering them an extended run at the historic SoHo Playhouse. This extended run gives these worthy shows a platform for future productions and success. Many of the previous productions featured in the series have gone on to extensive Off-Broadway runs and international success including such as Drama Desk Nominees Krapp 39 (FringeNYC 2008), Jamaica Farewell (FringeNYC 2009), Triassic Parq (FringeNYC 2012), We Live By The Sea (Edinburgh 2016) and Rap Guide To Religion (Edinburgh Fringe 2015).
SOHO PLAYHOUSE serves the downtown theater community as an historic 199 seat Off-Broadway venue. It was on this stage that Mr. Albee produced many first works of Terrance McNally, John Guare, Lanford Wilson, Sam Shephard, AR Gurney and Leroi Jones. The Playhouse is on a mission to preserve and protect the wonderful artists that make up Off-Broadway's downtown theatre scene. Darren Lee Cole has been artistic director since 2004.
Fringe Encore Series (Britt Lafield- Founder) was created as a learning center and stepping stone for the young talent and amazing productions that are a part of The New York International Fringe Festival every August in New York City. Now having expanded to include the largest Fringe Festivals in the world, Fringe Encore Series presents, promotes and educates the "best of" productions from each festival and allows more time for theater going public to catch the fresh new voices of today's theater.
