Executive Producer Aaron Grant has announced the addition of Emmy Award-winning actress Robin Strasser to the cast of the reading of Gary Morgenstein's new play, A TOMATO CAN'T GROW IN THE BRONX at the Jerry Orbach Theatre at the Snapple Theatre Center on December 20, 2011 at 3:30pm. The industry-only reading is Directed by Philip Morgaman. The General Manager is Kelvin Productions, LLC, with Casting by Daryl Eisenberg Casting.
A TOMATO CAN'T GROW IN THE BRONX will star Broadway, film and television actress Brooke Shields as Eleanor Abrams, the neurotic, only daughter of Harry, a domineering old school (and fading) Bronx big shot, with dreams of breaking free of her own fears and moving into a home of her own on Long Island, along with her teenage son Elliot and husband Sammy. Joining Ms. Shields & Ms. Strasser (who will play Sheild's character's mother Gladys), will be Larry Pine as Harry & Elana Safar as Madeline. Aaron Simon Gross as her son Elliot & Sam Seder as her husband Sammy were cast last week.
Robin Strasser is an Emmy Award-winning actress in her role as Dr. Dorian Lord on ABC's "One Life to Live," from 1979-2011. She also appeared on both "Another World" & "Passions," guest-starred on such iconic TV series as "Murder, She Wrote," "Murphy Brown" & "China Beach" & had recurring roles on "Coach" & "Knot's Landing." A graduate of the prestigious Yale School of Drama & a founding member of The American Conservatory Theatre, Strasser also has extensive stage credits, including the Broadway shows Shadow Box & Neil Simon's Chapter Two.
Larry Pine is well-known to TV audiences for his roles on "Oz," "Law & Order," "Gilmore Girls," & most recently, "Person of Interest," as well as his stint as Roger Gordon on "One Life to Live." He can be seen in the films Maid in Manhattan, The Royal Tenenbaums, Dead Man Walking, Woody Allen's Small Time Crooks & the soon-to-be-released Arbitrage with Richard Gere. Elana Safar has performed at Papermill Playhouse in Life on Earth, with Laura Benanti & Anne Hathaway, in a workshop of Hanky Panky with Tovah Feldshuh, in Soul Searching: A Rock Musical as part of NYMF & in the film Chanel Bleu, directed by Martin Scorsese.
Executive Producer Grant stated, "I'm so excited that Robin has agreed to join our cast. This entire reading is filled with people I've always wanted to work with."
