Robert Morse, forever identifiable with "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" on both the stage and the screen (and who will again appear on the upcoming 4th season of MAD MEN) alerted his Facebook friends to news that Turner Classic Movies will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Frank Loesser's birth with a marathon of his films.
The marathon will begin with his 1967 "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," starring original Broadway star Robert Morse (8 p.m. EDT).
The Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" will soon be revived on Broadway starring Daniel Radcliffe and was last seen in 1995, starring Matthew Broderick and Megan Mullally. Other movies which will air during the marathon include "Neptune's Daughter" with Esther Williams at midnight EDT and the 1949 "Red, Hot and Blue," starring Betty Hutton (1:45 a.m. June 30)."Heart & Soul: The Life and Music of Frank Loesser, a 2006 documentary, will air at 10:15 p.m. June 29. The documentary details his life and career, with interviews from fellow songwriters as well as family members like daughter Susan.
Loesser wrote the hits Guys And Dolls and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, among others. He won separate Tony Awards for the music and lyrics in both shows, as well as sharing the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the latter. He also wrote numerous songs for films and Tin pan alley, many of which have become standards, and was nominated for five Academy Awards for best song, winning once for "Baby, It's Cold Outside". He was nominated four more times: "Dolores" from Las Vegas Nights (1941) "They're Either Too Young or Too Old" from Thank Your Lucky Stars (1943) "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" from The Perils of Pauline (1947) "Thumbelina" (1953) In 2006 the PBS documentary, Heart & Soul: The Life and Music of Frank Loesser was released.
