Director Richard Caliban, fresh off his successful run with Mom - A Rock Concert Musical, has joined the theatrical production of THE CUTTING DEN, it was announced today by Barbara Mosinski, the drama's associate producer.
THE CUTTING DEN is a modern day flood story set in a Brooklyn barbershop/bookie parlor during the first week of the Major League baseball season. When debts go unpaid sparks fly until the shop burns red-hot. The play will appear at Soho Playhouse in New York City from Feb 4 - Feb 21, 2010.
Playwright Ron Scott Stevens is the former chairman of the NY State Athletic Commission. His last play, "Cherry's Patch", was also directed by Richard Caliban. "I am pleased that Mr. Caliban has joined our production," said Stevens. "He is a very talented director who has an incredible knack for getting the actors to deliver what the playwright intends."
Richard Caliban's Mom - A Rock Concert Musical won the award for Outstanding Musical at the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival, and is now in development for a commercial production. Caliban is the former Artistic Director of the Cucaracha Theatre and is currently a faculty member of the National Theatre Conservatory in Denver. "I am eager to get started on ‘The Cutting Den'," said Caliban. "It is the kind of play written by someone who has lived in the real world, not around theater people."
