On Monday, May 5th at 7:00PM the creative team of The Really Big Pirate Show! will present a reading at the 411 Theatre Space at 300 West 43rd Street in Manhattan in another step towards a planned Broadway run.  The show, which was given a workshop production several years ago at The Portland Center for the Performing Arts has undergone changes, and now boasts a website, a demo CD and most importantly, the interest of some investors.  Although the title may suggest otherwise, the musical is not children's theatre - indeed a good deal of the spectacle and humor is very much geared toward an adult audience.

The Really Big Pirate Show! is the story of Samuel, an orphan who dreams of adventure and seizes the day by signing on to a ship as cabin boy, and only later realizes that he has joined a band of pirates.  Even worse, he discovers that he has been cursed with a magical Heart of Gold buried deep in his chest, and it just happens to be the legendary treasure that everyone is looking for!  In his quest to find true freedom, Samuel's adventures bring him face to face with ravaging pirates, gruesome ghosts, a bloodthirsty uncle, a Looney queen, and a villainous Sea Hag!  Complete with huge sword fights, wild romance, daring duels, a giant squid attack, amazons and mermaids, this is the show for anyone who has ever wanted to be a pirate.  All this and a six-foot parrot named Hamlet who can talk and talk and talk!

The reading will feature a large cast of New York City talent most notably:  Al Bundonis (Sessions, Whistle Down the Wind-tour); FredeRick Hamilton (Measure for Pleasure); Luis Villabon (Naked Boys Singing, A Chorus Line-2001 tour); Victoria Bundonis (The Memory of Water); Meghan McGeary (The Blue Flower); Lisa Villamaria (Naughty Marietta) and Patrick Riviere (Welcome to our City).
