Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre Ends World Premiere Run of BLIND, 3/21

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater will end its world premiere run of Blind, by Craig Wright (The Pavilion, Lady) on March 21st. The production is directed by Lucie Tiberghein (The Pavilion, Geometry of Fire).

In this contemporary re-telling of Oedipus, a married couple slowly rediscover the secret they thought they had buried deep within the cavities of their unconscious. The play explores the blindness of two individuals but also the blindness of a culture that now must confront its own folly.

The cast of Blind includes Veanne Cox (Caroline, or Change; The Dinner Party), Seth Numrich (Slipping, The Judgment of Paris) and Danielle Slavick (That Pretty Pretty; Or, The Rape Play).

The creative team is comprised of Takeshi Kata (sets), Anne Kennedy (costumes), Matthew Richards (lights), Ryan Rumery (sound), Christian Frederickson (music) and Eugenia Furneaux-Arends (props). Melissa Mae Gregus is Production Stage Manager and Rebecca Spinac is Assistant Stage Manager.

Craig Wright's Mistakes Were Made was most recently seen at A Red Orchid Theatre in Chicago with Michael Shannon starring and Dexter Bullard directing and, playing in a separate production, at Hartford Stage with Will LeBow starring and Jeremy Cohen directing. It will be seen later this year in New York City with Michael Shannon and Dexter Bullard again on board. Craig is currently writing a play for Hartford Stage, a play for Third Rail Rep and a musical for Playwrights Horizons. He recently received the 2009 Horton Foote Excellence in American Playwriting Award from Baylor University. His other plays include Better Late (Northlight Theatre), The Unseen (Humana Festival, Stages Rep), Lady (Northlight Theatre) and Grace (Woolly Mammoth Theatre). The Pavilion (Rattlestick, City Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Globe Theatre), Main Street (Great American History Theatre), Orange Flower Water (CATF, the Jungle, Steppenwolf, Edge Theater Companies), Recent Tragic Events (Woolly Mammoth, Playwrights Horizons) Molly's Delicious (Arden Theatre) and Melissa Arctic (Folger Theatre). His plays are published by Dramatists Play Service, Playscripts Inc., Dramatic Publishing and Smith & Kraus. He has received several awards for his writing, including fellowships from the McKnight Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Mr. Wright received an Emmy nomination for his "Six Feet Under" episode "Twilight" and a WGA nomination for his episode "Falling Into Place." He has served as writer and producer for the JJ Abrams series "Lost" and the ABC series "Brothers & Sisters." He was the creator and Executive Producer of his own series, "Dirty Sexy Money" which aired on ABC for two seasons starring Peter Krause, Donald Sutherland and Jill Clayburgh. He is currently developing a pilot for Showtime, writing a mini-series for the BBC and turning the documentary "Must Read After My Death" into a feature film. He is the Executive Producer and writer for a new series called "Are We There Yet," to be produced by Mark Burnett, being developed by Sony Pictures and CBS. As the co-leader of the alternative rock band, The Tropicals, Mr. Wright has toured with Grammy-nominated Semisonic, and The Tropicals' first release, Live At The Jungle, was named one of the Top 10 local releases by every leading Twin Cities' newspaper and weekly. As a member of the band Kangaroo he has released two albums, Phantom and Skyscraper Spaceship. Mr. Wright is a graduate of United Theological Seminary.

Ms. Tiberghien has directed a short film The Things We Know and written a film version of the The Pavilion combined with Orange Flower Water by Craig Wright. She is French and was a professional dancer in Paris until she moved to NY in 1995.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater is a multi-award-winning company which has produced over forty world premieres in the past fourteen seasons and was the recipient of the 2007 Ross Wetzsteon Memorial OBIE Award for its work developing new and innovative work. Rattlestick's Advisory Board participates in The Emerging Playwrights Project, which matches a new playwright with an established artist for an experienced eye and creative support. Playwright and artist mentors have included Edward Albee, Jon Robin Baitz, Zoe Caldwell, Arthur Kopit, Craig Lucas, Joe Mantello, Terrence McNally and Marsha Norman.
