Adam Rapp's new play THE METAL CHILDREN, about censorship in small-town American, begins performances June 20 at the Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street), it has been announced today by Vineyard Artistic Director
Douglas Aibel.
Also directed by Mr. Rapp, the cast includes
Betsy Aidem, Connor Barrett,
Kerry Bishe,
Guy Boyd,
Mia Dillon, David Greenspan,
Halley Wegryn Gross, Michael Shannon, and
Katherine Waterston.
THE METAL CHILDREN follows the controversy created in a small town when a Young Adult novel about teenage pregnancy ignites heated emotions over abortion, religious beliefs and modern feminism.
Scheduled through June 29 only, THE METAL CHILDREN is presented at The Vineyard as one of the theatre's Lab Productions -- small-scale productions, modest in production values, which give playwrights and directors the opportunity to make changes on a nightly basis. Lab Productions are not open to the press for review, aiming to provide artists with the opportunity to develop exciting new work in front of a discerning New York audience.
While tickets to Lab Productions are regularly available only to Vineyard Theatre members, The Vineyard has announced that a limited number of rush seats for $20 will be released for sale to the general public two hours prior to performances of THE METAL CHILDREN, subject to availability. General audience members may also become a Lab Sponsor for a donation of $50, which includes a ticket to the June 26th 8pm performance of THE METAL CHILDREN and a pre-show cocktail party with fellow sponsors and playwright/director

Adam Rapp is best known for the long-running Off-Broadway play RED LIGHT WINTER. His other plays include NOCTURNE, FINER NOBLE GASES, STONE COLD DEAD SERIOUS, BLACKBIRD, TRUEBLINKA, AMERICAN SLIGO, and BINGO WITH THE INDIANS. Mr. Rapp was a 2006 Pulitzer Prize finalist for RED LIGHT WINTER, which also received two OBIE awards. Recent honors include the 2006 Princess Grace statue, two Lincoln Center le Compte de Nuoy Awards, and the Lucille Lortel Playwriting Fellowship. His work has been performed across the United States, and in London and Edinburgh.
Mr. Rapp is also the author of several novels, including the Young Adult novel "The Buffalo Tree" which was censored by the Muhlenberg School Board in Reading Pennsylvania due to its themes, graphic language and sexual content.
