After six-weeks of packed houses at the SoHo Playhouse, Artistic Director Darren Lee Cole has announced a four-week extension of Drama Desk Award nominee Baba Brinkman's show Rap Guide to Consciousness.
The 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival favorite has been met with great acclaim. YesBroadway, says "You'll learn about science via Rap Guide to Consciousness the same effortless way you learn about history via Hamilton", Theater is Easy called the show "a delight", and audience members have left the performances in awe; raving about the experience.
Baba is no stranger to this kind of praise. Past installments of his rap Rap Guide to... series have gotten the attention of the New York Times - who made his Rap Guide to Religion a Critic's Pick - as well as Time Out New York - who gave his Rap Guide to Evolution 4 stars, calling it "Totally original and thought-provoking."
Just like these past productions, the lyrics in Rap Guide to Consciousness are not only profound, but also peer-reviewed. The scientific accuracy of the show was enough to impress Neil deGrasse Tyson, who invited Baba to be a guest on his StarTalk at BAM: Science is Everywhere show, where he freestyled about the panel's discussion on free will. Consciousness was also featured on the Dana Foundation website during Brain Awareness Week and praised on Twitter by upcoming guest of the show, Deepak Chopra.
