PigPen Theatre Co.'s Off-Broadway play with music The Old Man and the Old Moon, hailed as "the best kept secret around that's not going to last for much longer" by The Huffington Post, has announced today that it will extend for the holiday season to January 6, 2013 at The Gym at Judson (243 Thompson Street, NYC). Tickets for all performances can be purchased at www.sohoplayhouse.com. The Old Man and the Old Moon is a co-production of Britt Lafield/BKL Productions, SoHo Playhouse, Inc., Aaron Glick, Ronnie Planalp / Deborah Taylor and The PigPen Company.
Called "an all-ages journey into the frontiers of undiluted imagination" by New York Magazine, The Old Man and the Old Moon is the tale of an old man who must abandon his duties of filling up the moon every month to cross the seas in search of his missing wife, who left home in search of a mysterious melody carried in the ocean breeze. On his journey, the Old Man will encounter titanic leviathans of the deep, apocalyptic storms, civil wars, cantankerous ghosts and other startling and fantastical creatures. The production features PigPen's signature blend of original music, shadow puppetry, live action, and clever lighting effects, and marks the company's first large-scale Off-Broadway production.
Last week, PigPen Theatre Co. announced that they will be giving away free tickets to The Old Man and the Old Moon to those displaced from their homes due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. At each performance, until all tri-state residents are able to safely return to their homes, twenty tickets will be given away to those displaced by the storm. For each performance, 20 complimentary tickets will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis at The Gym at Judson's box office to those who have been displaced who use the code word "SANDY." Proof of identification listing the zip code of an afflicted area is required. Theater-goers may request up to two tickets.
The Old Man and the Old Moon is written, directed, produced and starred in by the seven members of the PigPen Theatre Co., Alex Falberg, Ben Ferguson, Curtis Gillen, Ryan Melia, Matt Nuernberger, Arya Shahi, and Dan Weschler. The productions creative team includes Lydia Fine (Design and Puppetry), Bart Cortright (Design) and the PigPen Theatre Co. (Puppetry).
