Tina Packer's "Women of Will, the Complete Journey" - her five play series that explores and deconstructs Shakespeare's female characters - officially opened at The Gym at Judson (243 Thompson Street) in Manhattan this past weekend (April 12, 13, 14), leaving only three more chances to experience "The Complete Journey" - the weekends of April 26, 27, 28; May 10, 11, 12; and May 24, 25, 26. BroadwayWorld has new production shots below!
"Women of Will, the Overview" continues as scheduled to play The Gym at Judson through June 2nd with a performance schedule of Tuesdays at 7pm, Wednesdays through Fridays at 8pm, and alternate weekends Saturdays at 2pm & 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm.
Part 1 - "The Warrior Women, from Violence to Negotiation": In Part 1, Tina and co-star
Nigel Gore examine the early writings of
William Shakespeare, his journey to becoming a playwright and actor, and the role of theatre in Elizabethan England. It includes the first plays that Shakespeare wrote, including his early comedies (The Comedy of Errors, The Taming of the Shrew, Two Gentlemen of Verona and Love's Labour's Lost) and early histories (Henry VI: Parts 1, 2, 3, and Richard III). The performance ends with the first major change in Shakespeare's attitude and portrayal of women: Juliet. "How," Packer asks, "is Shakespeare's writing impacted when he portrays a young girl as intelligent, poetic and courageous as her Romeo?"
"Women of Will, the Complete Journey Part 1" will be performed on April 26 at 8pm; May 10 at 8pm; and May 24 at 8pm. For a full performance calendar for "Women of Will" visit
