Just in time for Halloween, Wake Up, Marconi! Theater Company proudly presents a theatrical adaptation of Henry James' hair-raising ghost story, The Turn of the Screw, adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and directed by Don K. Williams. Performances begin Halloween night, October 31 and will continue through November 17 at the Bank Street Theatre (155 Bank St). The official opening is November 3.
"In this provocative tale of suspense, horror and repressed sexuality, a young governess begins a new job at a lonely English manor house plagued by supernatural powers. The two orphaned children in her care, grossly neglected by their uncle, appear to be controlled by evil powers, but only the governess is able to actually see the ghosts around them…or are they the product of her own fevered imagination? Will the evil ghosts of her predecessors, a couple in the throes of a twisted affair, succeed at their ghastly mission? Is there an escape for our governess? The Turn of the Screw is a spooky gem of sexual and psychological tension, culminating in a horrifying dénouement," explain press notes.
The two-member cast includes recent NYU graduate Melissa Pinsly as the young governess and Steve Cook in a plethora of roles.
