The Tony Award-winning psychological thriller, Sleuth, starring Mark Jacoby from the originals; The Phantom of the Opera, Grand Hotel and Ragtime as well as revivals of Sweet Charity, Man of La Mancha and Sweeney Todd, will be onstage December 2 - 14, 2008 at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Director, Peter Flynn, returns to the Theatre where he won the prestigious 2008 Carbonell Award for "Best Director" of Man of La Mancha.

Written by Anthony Shaffer in 1970, Sleuth, is a play set in the Wiltshire, England manor house of Andrew Wyke, a successful mystery writer, played by Mark Jacoby. Milo Tindle, the lover of Wyke's wife, is played by Jeremy Webb, who was nominated for two 2008 Outer Critics Circle Awards and five 2008 Drama Desk Awards. Inspector Doppler will be played by Stanley Rushton; Detective Sergeant Tarrant will be played by Robin Mayfield; and Liam McNutly will play the role of Police Constable Higgs.

The English Manor Set and Costumes are being designed by Lucille Lortel winners, Michael Bottari and Ronald Case ("Die Mommie Die" ,"Fanny Hill"). The dramatic lighting is by Don Thomas.

Wyke, who is obsessed with deceptions of fiction, games and game-playing, lures Tindle to the manor in order to stage a robbery of his wife's jewelry. The spiral of events that occur after the staged robbery leave the audience baffled and trying to figure out where Wyke's imagination ends and reality begins. This action-packed whodunit mystery will have the audience shrieking and laughing out loud as two men battle over the love of one woman.

According to Anthony Shaffer, the play was partly inspired by his friend, Stephen Sondheim, a composer, whose intense interest in game-playing is reflected in the character, Wyke. In 1972, Sleuth was made into a famous movie starring Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine.
