Robert Newman, star of "Guiding Light" and a two-time Daytime Emmy nominee for his longtime work on "Guiding Light," joined the cast of SESSIONS beginning Friday, May 29th. SESSIONS, directed by Thomas Coté, is now playing off-Broadway at the Algonquin Theater (123 East 24th Street). Albert M. Tapper (From Where I Stand, Broadway: The Golden Age) pens this candid and witty new musical about the everyday life of a New York therapist and his patients. Tony Sportiello/Algonquin Theatre Productions and Jason Hewitt are the producers.

Robert Newman has earned legions of fans with his portrayal of Joshua Lewis on "Guiding Light." Robert first appeared on the CBS daytime drama in 1981 and has been playing his role for the 28 years since. In 2002 and 2006, he received nominations for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Newman has worked extensively in the theater world, playing leading roles in the musicals The Robber Bridegroom, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, and The Fantasticks, as well as roles in such diverse plays as Veronica's Room, Titus Andronicus, The Owl and the Pussycat, Medea and The Rainmaker. He recently performed at North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, Mass as Guido Contini in Nine, and at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera as Carl Magnus in A Little Night Music and as Harold in The Full Monty. He has just returned from a successful run as Charlie Anderson in Shenandoah at The Barn Theater in Augusta, Mi. He was seen off-Broadway at the Orpheum Theater in Quiet on the Set and in Betty the Yeti at Stamford Theatreworks in Stamford, CT.

In SESSIONS, a New York therapist is challenged to balance his patients' needs with his own- all while fending off advances from one very enticing female subject. His experiences remind us that even those we look to for guidance can be as vulnerable as we are.

Newman joins stars Bertilla Baker (Titanic, Bernarda Alba), Al Bundonis (Whistle Down The Wind, Ragtime), Rachelle Rak (Fosse and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Scott Richard Foster (Brooklyn the Musical), Drama Desk and Theatre World award winner Ken Jennings (Sweeney Todd, Urinetown), Tony nominee Liz Larsen (The Most Happy Fella, The Rocky Horror Show), Kelli Maguire (Swingtime Canteen, A Wonderful Life) and Sky Seals (Much Ado About Nothing, Medea).

The creative team includes Steven Gross (Musical Arrangements, Orchestrations, Supervision), John McDermott (Scenic Design), Penny Ayn Maas (Choreography), Michele Pasqua (Costume Design), Brant Thomas Murray (Lighting Design), Josh Liebert (Sound Design), and James Horvath (Additional Choreography).

The playing schedule for SESSIONS is Wednesday-Saturday at 8pm as well at playing 3pm matinees on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Due to the "Guiding Light" shooting schedule, the role of Dr. Peterson will be played by Dennis Holland on Wednesday matinees. All seats are $50 and are available by visiting www.smarttix.com or by calling 212-868-4444. Senior and student discount tickets are available for $20. www.sessionsthemusical.com
