DISASTER!, a 1970's disaster movie musical written by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick began previews Off-Broadway on Monday, October 14th at the St. Luke's Theatre (308 W. 46th Street). Directed by Mr. Plotnick, with choreography by Denis Jones, Disaster! is a hilarious send up of the disaster movie genre featuring some favorite songs from the '70s. Opening night is Monday November 4th. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
A summer evening. 1979. New York City's hottest partiers are blowing out their feathered hair and putting on their best polyester threads and platform shoes to head to the grand opening of Manhattan's first floating casino and discotheque. Little do they know that their night of boogie fever will turn into a . . . Disaster!
DISASTER! features some of the best songs of the 1970s including "Hot Stuff," "Don't Bring Me Down," "I Am Woman," "Alone Again Naturally," "Signed Sealed Delivered," "Knock On Wood," "Daybreak" "Sky High," and more.
A previous version of Disaster! played weekly performances at The Triad Theater in NYC from January - March 2012. This production marks Disaster!'s Off-Broadway premiere.
The cast of Disaster! includes Sherz Aletaha, Haven Burton (SHREK, LEGALLY BLONDE), Charity Dawson, John Treacy Egan (NICE WORK . . . , THE PRODUCERS), Saum Eskandani, Matt Farcher, Tom Riis Farrell (CHICAGO, CORAM BOY, DIRTY BLONDE), Maggie McDowell, Michele Ragusa (YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, URINETOWN), Seth Rudetsky (THE RITZ), Robb Sapp (SHREK, WICKED), Jennifer Simard (SISTER ACT, SHREK, SPELLING BEE), two-time Tony Award nominee Mary Testa, (XANADU, 42nd STREET, ON THE TOWN), and Jonah Verdon.
Presented by Mary J. Davis, Disaster! has set and lighting design by Josh Iacovelli; costume design by Brian Hemesath, and sound design by Brett Rothstein. Larry Pressgrove is the Music Director, and Steve Marzullo is the Music Supervisor. Drew Geraci is the associate director and choreographer. Jeff Davolt is the Production Stage Manager, and Tom Kosis is the ASM.
DISASTER! will be performed Off-Broadway at the St. Luke's Theatre (308 W. 46th Street) beginning Monday October 14th. The schedule is Mondays at7:30 PM, Tuesdays at 7:30 PM, Wednesdays at 2:30 PM, and Fridays at 8:00 PM. Opening night is Monday, November 4th.
