THROUGH THE NIGHT, a solo play written and performed by Obie-Award winner Daniel Beaty, will open off Broadway at The Riverside Theatre, 91 Claremont Avenue on Friday, May 7th (Previews begin on May 4th). THROUGH THE NIGHT, recently premiered as a co-production with the Crossroads Theatre (New Brunswick, NJ) and The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles to great acclaim.

Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, THROUGH THE NIGHT is the story of six African-American males, ages 10-60, who discover the power of possibility through one extraordinary event. Daniel Beaty, who won an Obie-Award for his critically acclaimed solo play Emergence-See at The Public Theatre in the 2006-2007 season, gives voice to this community of men and what it means to be Black and male in America.

A special addition to the production will be dialogues with Beaty and prominent guests after each performance. Opening night will feature actor Bill Cosby and others set to appear include Ruby Dee, Hill Harper and Malik Yoba.
The creative team also includes scenic and lighting design by Alexander V. Nichols and sound design and original music by Lindsay Jones.

Performance time is 7 pm for previews, 8 pm on opening night, May 7th. The production runs through May 23rd.

Daniel Beaty is an award-winning actor, singer, writer and composer. His critically acclaimed solo play Emergence-See! directed by Kenny Leon ran for a sold -out extended run at The Public Theatre in the fall of 2006. For this Beaty received the 2007 Obie Award for Excellence in Off-Broadway theatre for Writing and Performing and the 2007 AUDELCO Award for Solo Performance. In the spring of 2008, Emergence-See! retitled Emergency was presented at the Geffen Playhouse and was awarded two 2009 NAACP Theater Awards including Best Actor. Daniel has worked throughout the US, Europe and Africa performing on programs with such artists as Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Jill Scott, Sonia Sanchez, Mos Def, Tracy Chapman and Phylicia Rashad. His ensemble play Resurrection received its world premiere production at Arena Stage in DC in 2008 followed by engagements at Hartford Stage, the Philadelphia Theatre Company and ETA Theatre in Chicago.

Charles Randolph-Wright recently directed a new version of the musical Sophisticated Ladies (currently running at Arena Stage starring Maurice Hines) and the 75th Anniversary tour of Porgy and Bess (currently on tour). Other theatre credits include Love Life with Brian Stokes Mitchell, Guys & Dolls (50th Anniversary Tour), Blood Knot at ACT in San Francisco, The Diva is Dismissed (with Jennifer Lewis) at the New York Shakespeare Festival and the world premieres of Senor Discretion Himself (Arena Stage) and Me and Mrs. Jones (Prince Theatre). His writing credits include Blue (Roundabout Theatre starring Phylicia Rashad, Cuttin' Up (ALLIANCE THEATRE) and he co-wrote Just Between Friends Just on Broadway starring Bea Arthur. He produced and wrote the critically acclaimed Showtime series "LINC'S".

THROUGH THE NIGHT is presented by The Riverside Theatre, Voza Rivers/New Heritage Theatre and Walk Tall Girl Productions.
