Origin Theatre, a company dedicated to producing American premieres of European works, teamed up with one of Manhattan's newest Irish pubs to present a Bloomsday breakfast Monday morning. Malachy McCourt and other actors read the words of James Joyce while guests enjoyed an Irish breakfast of eggs, sausages, potatoes, beans and blood pudding (plus mimosas and bloody Marys).
June 16 is celebrated worldwide as Bloomsday, an homage to Joyce's novel Ulysses, which follows its protagonist, Leopold Bloom, through a single day -- June 16, 1904 -- in Dublin.
Noel Kilkenny, Ireland's consul general in New York, delivered the welcoming remarks at Origin's Bloomsday breakfast. The event was held at Bloom's Tavern, which opened last fall on East 58th St.
